Barcelona are planning shock raid for Liverpool ace [Mundo Deportivo]

Barcelona are eyeing up a surprise move for Liverpool full-back Alberto Moreno, with Paris Saint Germain defender Lucas Digne set to replace the Spaniard at Anfield next season – according to Mundo Deportivo, cited in the Daily Star.

The La Liga giants can’t register any new players until January – due to an ongoing transfer embargo – but that hasn’t stopped them signing new players this summer. Luis Enrique has already added Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal to his squad since the end of last season and is apparently ready to push forward with further business.

Enrique currently only has Jordi Alba and Adriano on his books in terms of left-sided defenders, while the latter has been regularly linked with a transfer (via Goal). If such a move were to go through, they could see Moreno as the ideal man to bolster their options at the back.

The 23-year-old enjoyed plenty of success during his first spell in Spain, winning the Europa League with Sevilla, and having struggled during an under-par first season in England he could be tempted to return home.

New signing Joe Gomez has been hugely impressive during pre-season, while the rumours linking us with a move for Digne have cast further doubt over Moreno’s position in Brendan Rodgers’ squad.

Nonetheless, this remains a hugely unlikely transfer rumour that we’d be shocked to see come off. Moreno started our last pre-season game, against the Malaysia XI, and looks a near certainty to at least begin our new campaign as first choice.
