Liverpool’s young Spanish winger Sergi Canos has recently extended his loan contract with Brentford until the end of the season, and he celebrated that fact in outrageous style at the weekend.

The 18-year-old, who we secured from Barcelona a few years back, bagged Brentford’s winner versus Reading in stupendous fashion – touching the ball over a defender’s head on the touchline, cutting in, beating another and slamming a wonderful left footed shot into the corner of the net.

“I can’t believe the goal,” he told Brentford’s official website . “It wasn’t me!

“I am so happy with the goal because it was to celebrate my loan extension. It was a big three points and the team needed the three points.

“[Bees manager] Dean Smith is always talking about what is next. I want to enjoy the present but everything is about what is coming next.”

“It has been a great 24 hours because all I wanted to do was stay at Brentford.

“From day one at Brentford I have wanted to stay here until the end of the season because I am learning a lot here. This is an amazing club and it is great to be playing here.”

Canos wouldn’t currently get a sniff at Anfield under Jurgen Klopp, so we’re glad the attacker is maximising his chances of playing time.

Since signing for Brentford, Canos has scored three Championship goals in 17 appearances – not a bad ratio at all considering his age and the physicality of the league.

We have high hopes for Canos, who along with Sheyi Ojo, Bobby Adekanye and Harry Wilson, is one of a number of exciting young wingers on our books – not to mention Jordon Ibe who himself is only 20.

Here’s Canos’s goal, if you haven’t had the privilege of seeing it yet.
