Ben Woodburn, Corey Whelan, and Brooks Lennon were the scorers, but it was Woodburn’s 17th minute stunner that stole all the headlines.
A long punt from full-back saw the ball come to the forward, and his control and chip was as good as anything we’ve seen from our senior side this season.

Whelan added the second on the stroke of half-time, and Lennon scored a late third.
“That moment tonight was a moment of brilliance,” said our U18s boss Neil Critchley. “To take that on your chest over your shoulder, especially when there’s a bit of wind around, and hook it over your shoulder first time was an unbelievable piece of skill. He’s a delight to work with the boy.” (via Echo).
Woodburn only made the step up from the U16s at the start of the season, a fact Critchley was keen to point out:
“He’s obviously an U16 playing at U18s every week all season so we’ve got to manage him carefully. To go every single week in the U18s is a big ask for him physically and it can take a lot out of him mentally as well,” he said.
“We have to carefully manage him, look after his best interests and get the best out of him on the pitch on nights like this and I thought he was outstanding again tonight.”
