Members of Liverpool’s squad not called up for international duty are spending the week in Tenerife at a training camp organised by the manager, reports the Echo.
Most of the first-team squad will not be present, though Roberto Firmino, Kolo Toure and skipper for Sunday’s defeat to Southampton Jon Flanagan have travelled.
Firmino was meant to be with Brazil, but pulled his hamstring training and missed the Southampton clash as a result.
Nathaniel Clyne, Jordan Henderson, Daniel Sturridge, James Milner and Adam Lallana are with England, while Simon Mignolet, Christian Benteke and Divock Origi will play for Belgium.
Emre Can (Germany), Dejan Lovren (Croatia), Coutinho (Brazil), Mamadou Sakho (France), Joe Allen (Wales), Martin Skrtel (Slovakia), Brad Smith (Australia), Jordon Ibe (England Under-21s) and Sheyi Ojo (England Under-19s) are also away, meaning Klopp will get to check out some youngsters and fringe players at close quarters in warm weather!
These include Steven Caulker, Tiago Ilori, Jose Enrique, Joao Carlos Teixeira, Cameron Brannagan, Jordan Rossiter and Kevin Stewart – and there’s part of us that things this is more of an excuse for some fun in the sun while there’s no game preparation to be done!
Most interestingly for us Rossiter has travelled. The local lad is out of contract in the summer and there’s been no word whatsoever that his deal will be renewed.
Hopefully this will give him a real opportunity to impress Klopp, who arrived at the club to news the teenager had pulled his hamstring.
He hasn’t featured under the German as a result, and it’s looking more and more likely that he’ll leave on a Bosman.
