In what will surely be music to the ears of Liverpool fans around the world, it seems Loris Karius will not be called up by Germany for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

According to the Echo, the Germans will look at other options. It is believed that FC Koln’s Timo Horn, Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Bayer Leverkusen’s Bernd Leno, and Freiburg’s Alexander Schwolow have moved ahead of Karius in the pecking order.

If Karius was called up, he would miss the first three games of the season as well as a sizable chunk of our pre-season. Given the shortened nature of the pre-season due to the EUROs and Copa America, Klopp will presumably be delighted not to be losing the man he sees as his long-term number one just as the likes of Sturridge, Coutinho, Henderson, and Origi return.

It also means he will be available for our final friendly of the pre-season against his old club Mainz.
