Young Iranian forward Sardar Azmoun has reacted to the speculation linking him to Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp has had scouts watching the 21-year-old throughout the season and we’re interested in a potential January swoop.

He plays for FC Rostov in Russia, scoring nine goals last term and four this, including two in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich.

The forward, who’s bagged 16 times for his country, says he’s not been approached yet, but would be happy to speak with Liverpool should we formalise our interest.

“Ajax, PSV or Liverpool? I have no received any offers,” he said, reported in the Daily Post.

“If there are, then I’m going to take my time to look into it, whether it’s come from Liverpool or other clubs.”

Azmoun is a tricky, technical operator, but in truth the fact we’re after him surprises us. He certainly cannot offer what Roberto Firmino can centrally and he’s a step below Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi as well. We’re not sure there’s any need for Azmoun and would instead prefer us to continue our pursuit of Quincy Promes, who also plays in Russia, with the Echo confirming we’re eyeing the Dutchman as well.
