Emre Can’s situation, as expected, is one that has sparked debate amongst Reds fans.
The German’s future at the club is uncertain as a result of Can himself reportedly refusing to sign a new deal that has been on offer since the beginning of the year.
With his agent wanting the player’s current £35,000-a-week wages to double, negotiations promise to continue for some time.
The 23-year-old has shown plenty of signs of developing into a powerful midfield asset but has failed to perform consistently or progress at the rate many expected him to.
It is still unclear as to where he is most effective and where he has the most significant impact in this Liverpool team, which is why some supporters disagree with the idea of increasing his wages.
There is also the case for the idea that the player deserves a pay rise, given how those around him have been given the same, but not one that will take him to £70,000-a-week.
A number of Reds took to Twitter to have their say on the matter.
Is Emre Can worth 70k a week? Not been great tbf but is always in the first team. Difficult one. Deemed by LFC as good enough to play but…

@becki_holly25 The problem is there are worse players on more money. Mis-management from F$G 4 ages & it’s starting to bite them on the arse
— Nick Ghelakis (@LFC4Life77) March 8, 2017
@becki_holly25 Definitely not worth 70k yet. A 3 year contract with around 50-55k would be ideal for both.

Emre Can thinks hes worth more than double his 35k a week? thats just insane, time to move on lad.

Mad. Few months ago LFC fans wanted Emre Can as our skipper. Few months later & you want him to leave? He’s 23. Behave. Patience. ☝?

Not sure about the Emre Can stuff. Big fan of his, huge potential, but stunted a bit this season. Still, Hendo injury prone & wages not huge

Is Emre Can worth a pay rise ?
Yes
Is he worth a doubling of salary ?
Not yet
Are we throwing money at other (average) players ?
Yes#LFC— Michele (@_360red_) March 8, 2017
If you can’t see the current value & future potential of Emre Can, I’m told rugby is also a fun/interesting/skilful sport.

Would be so typical by us to give everyone an improved deal, even those who don’t deserve it and then not give Emre Can a 75k deal.

Contract disputes should come from a position of strength. Emre Can does not have that position of strength.

Emre Can is a great player but £60-70k for wages would be the max for me

With Henderson, Milner & Lallana all on over 100K a week I think Emre Can is well within his rights asking for 70K. Club is pathetic!
