As you’ll know by now, there’s been a petition signed by hundreds of thousands of Liverpool fans to remove Michael Owen as an official Liverpool ambassador following his commentary during Manchester United’s Europa League Final win.
Our former striker, who went on to play for our most bitter rivals, repeatedly referred to United as ‘We’, which is not the behaviour expected of someone contracted to Liverpool.

We’re not sure yet what action the club will take, but it’s unlikely Owen will continue with such overwhelming feeling against him – rightly or wrongly.
In his place, John Arne Riise has put his name forward as a replacement – having retired from full-time playing duties.
Below, you’ll see a number of tweets (one to Empire of the Kop), in which our former Norwegian left-back speaks himself up for the job.
Sounds great ??who wouldn’t love that? If wanted I’m ready ⚽️?? https://t.co/CUenSA825s

Riise clearly loves Liverpool and has an iconic place in the club’s history, having won the Champions League in 2005 and scored some memorable goals throughout his tenure.
Daniel Agger is a good shout as well, but Riise’s name should be in the hat if a position is vacant!
