‘It’s what I really love in football’ – Klopp opens up on Coutinho’s return

Jurgen Klopp is delighted Liverpool’s fans have taken Coutinho back into our arms and that the Brazilian is doing the business on the field once again.

The no.10 started on Saturday and put in a Man of the Match performance against Leicester City, registering a goal and an assist.

He’s well and truly back in the first-choice starting XI and barring injury, will stay there all season.

“It’s not about Coutinho’s character but it says a lot about the relationship with our supporters and Phil Coutinho,” Klopp told the Echo. “Because when he came on (against Sevilla) for the last 15, 20 minutes, nobody knew how Anfield would react.

“Anfield pushed, it was really there, and that’s what I really love in football.

“Maybe we don’t agree always in each moment, like people are, but when you have a short minute to think you remember we are family.

“That’s how they reacted, they really loved it and that helped Phil a lot. He can play football, he can be concentrated on football, he can perform.”

Reports will continue to link Coutinho to Barcelona throughout the campaign, but he’s not going anywhere until next summer at the very earliest and that’s a long, long way away.

And the manner in which Barcelona have ruined their relationship with Liverpool will not help their chances of convincing FSG to accept a deal, either.

They’ve lied to the press about Liverpool’s stance and blatantly ignored our requests to stop harassing the player.

As a result, our owners may not be willing to sit down at the table with them in the future.
