Manchester City are set to be a force to be reckoned with in the race for Emre Can’s signature next year.
The current Premier League leaders are believed to be keen on the midfielder, who could be available on a free transfer when his Liverpool contract expires next summer.
Juventus have also been in pursuit of the German since the beginning of the year, with negotiations over a new deal at Anfield having continued to stall.
The Italian giants are now fearful they will lose out to City when Can officially hits the market, according to the Daily Star.
Fears over Can’s situation recently became true when it was revealed the 23-year-old looks likely to depart at the end of the season.
His exit would be a disappointing setback ahead of the arrival of RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita, who Reds had hoped would feature alongside Can in a formidable Liverpool midfield.
Supporters may have accepted losing the former Bayer Leverkusen at the beginning of the year, but certainly not now.
Having previously been guilty of a somewhat pedestrian approach, he has grown to be a valuable contributor in both aspects of the game and an important part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans on Merseyside.
City may be in the hunt, but it seems highly unlikely the club will allow Can to join a Premier League rival- especially on a free.
