Jurgen Klopp has urged Liverpool fans to show off the pride and spirit of the city when Roma visit for Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final first-leg.
The Reds’ boss is keen to avoid a repeat of a minority of fans hurling objects at Manchester City’s team bus prior to their quarter-final clash at Anfield.
Liverpool were subsequently forced to issue an apology, with Klopp himself also reportedly personally apologising to the City players on behalf of the club.
In what was an incredible welcome for the Reds, it proved to be a mere handful that let the rest of the club’s supporters down.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com: “In the stadium do it again and better. Out of the stadium please show the respect we have to show.”
“This is such a fantastic club and an outstanding football family, known for fantastic atmospheres. We don’t need to throw whatever at the opponent’s bus.
“Please show Roma the respect they deserve. Everyone knows how nice Rome is, we can show how wonderful the people of Liverpool are.”

There is no doubt the atmosphere played an influential role in driving Liverpool to their memorable 3-0 win over Pep Guardiola’s Premier League champions.
Rapturous applause and an undying roar in response to every pass, tackle and shot fuelled a typically fiery front-foot performance from Klopp’s men, justifying Anfield’s reputation as a magical theatre on European nights.
Against a Roma side flaunting the fans to give as much back in the Stadio Olimpico, Liverpool will need the full support from their own over the next 10 days.
