Marko Grujic made his first team comeback for Hertha Berlin on Saturday after missing over a month of football through injury.

The Liverpool loanee suffered ankle ligament damage during a 4-2 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach on September 22 and has since missed eight games across all competitions.

He stepped up his progress earlier this month when he played an hour in a friendly against 2. Bundesliga side Aue during the international break.

Grujic made his long-awaited return at the weekend as he managed the full 90 minutes in a 3-3 draw with Hoffenheim.

His injury in September proved a cruel blow in his bid to secure regular first team football following his temporary switch from Liverpool in the summer.

It also set him back in his effort to impress Jurgen Klopp in view of fighting for senior involvement upon his return to Melwood next year.

The midfielder evidently still remains in the German’s plans at the club and was handed a new long-term contract prior to his departure at the beginning of the season.

Grujic’s immediate return to Hertha’s starting lineup following the completion of his recovery poses as yet another positive of sending him to Germany. Winning back his place may not have been so straight forward with a Premier League club.
