Reds ‘make €45 million bid’ for world-class midfielder

Liverpool have made a bid of around €45 million (£40 million) for Portugal and Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes, according to Correio da Manha.

The report claims that many clubs are interested, but that the Reds are the only side to have put an offer on the table at this moment in time.

Fernandes has exceptional talent and scored 20 league goals last season, as well as assisting 13 times – world-class numbers. He’s one of the most coveted talents in world football this summer, with those statistics coming from a midfield position.

Tottenham, Inter Milan, Manchester United and Manchester City are also rumoured to be interested in the 24-year-old, but the Reds have made the first move and could well be in the driving seat. If he has the choice of those sides, why not go with the European champions?

We would certainly like to see this be true, although we suspect the Reds might need to bid a little more than €45 million in the current market to get someone of this calibre. Nevertheless, it’s a promising development.
