Fabinho returns and Trent starts: How the Reds should line up against Arsenal

The Reds face Arsenal on Saturday evening in the Premier League, heading into the clash as the early leaders in the table having beaten Norwich City and Southampton so far this season.

The match against the Gunners, though, is the Reds’ toughest test to date, with the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Nicolas Pepe potent threats. With a good record against Arsenal in recent times, however, the Reds must be confident.

Alisson is making good progress in his recovery from injury, but will not be back this weekend, so Adrian will continue to deputise.

At the back, Joe Gomez could play at right-back to combat the Arsenal threat from out wide, but we would play Trent Alexander-Arnold and move Gomez into the centre. That would mean Joel Matip missing out, but someone has to, with Virgil van Dijk indespensible.

In midfield, Fabinho and Jordan Henderson are two of the first names on the teamsheet at the moment, and Gini Wijnaldum often steps up in big games, so he can play ahead of James Milner. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will have to settle for a place on the bench against his former side.

The front three, of course, picks itself, with Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi options from the sidelines.

Predicted starting XI: Adrian; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane
