Liverpool could take advantage of a contract dispute by signing Fabian Delph…
Liverpool are interested in signing Fabian Delph from Aston Villa, with the out of contract England international set to lead a mass exodus from the Premier League strugglers.
After starting the season with ten points from their first four games, which included a surprise victory over Liverpool, five consecutive defeats have seen Villa fall to 15th in the table, with several of their top stars frustrated at the lack of progress under manager Paul Lambert.
According to reports in the Daily Mirror, star men Delph and Manchester Untied target Ron Vlaar will both see their contracts expire at the end of the season – and there is no sign yet that either will sign a new deal.
Liverpool are among three clubs interested in 24-year-old Delph, with the former Leeds Untied midfielder also attracting interest from North London duo Arsenal and Tottenham.
Brendan Rodgers’ side are in desperate need for reinforcements in the defensive midfield area, and the Reds boss was impressed with the performance of Delph when his side played Villa earlier this year.
Meanwhile, it is a tricky scenario for manager Lambert, as he tries to turn around a run of form that has hit a brick wall since he signed a new contract in September – his team having only scored four goals in nine games all season.
