Fake Gerrard & Torres Profiles on Twitter

Posted by

Twitter has become a very popular social media outlet for many celebrities and certain sports stars. There are alot of American sport stars on Twitter with the most notable being Lance Armstrong and basketball star Shaquille O’Neal. However when it comes to football it seems that there is  a Twitter drought which has led to some imposters to create fake profiles and pretend to be the real players. Probably, we will not get any professional football players tweeting any time soon after the Darren Bent incident as many clubs are considering Twitter bans on players.

Unfortunately there are two fake Twitter profiles that are gaining in popularity with young fans duped into believing that these are the real Steven Gerrard & Fernando Torres, the fake profiles are @steven_gerrard & @f_torres09 .

I become suspicious when I saw the Torres one right away, his English seems to be perfect and all the stuff the imposter tweets is what is reported in the media. Don’t you think the real person would mention an interesting observation or something like I HAD A HEADACHE TODAY?  The same can be said with the fake Stevie G., although this imposter does not tweet much however he was able to draw over 31,000 followers.

I have confirmed that these accounts are both fake, a tweet from the club’s official account also warned LFC fans that these are imposters and they were reporting them to Twitter.

Twitter recently introduced a Verified Account certification for famous people which is a real good move, I challenged both the fake Torres & fake Gerrard to do that but got no response.
