Let’s talk about the positives

Posted by

On Saturday Liverpool hosted the Bolton Wanderers and the quests waren’t able to score at Anfield even though they’ve had enough chances. Thanks to Dirk Kuyt’s struck in the first half and an own goal by Kevin Davies Liverpool won the clash with 2:0 and earned three points. The fourth place is only one point away now.

Even if it wasn’t a great performance, there were a few positives to notice:

1. First of all: we got the right result .

2. We have three points in our pocket now and we’are closer to the fourth place.

3. Stevie is almost back. The captain performed marginally better here than he did on his return from injury in the goalless draw at Wolves last Tuesday. There were a few sparks of his brilliancy to notice and you could see that he’s trying really hard.

4. Kyrgiakos save was a masterpiece and I think everyone will agree with me that was the man of the match.

5.  Dirk Kuyt scored again and that’s a sign that the Dutchman is coming back to his previous form. He gave us the lead eight minutes before half-time and I think it also has given us some boost if you think about how we were playing before and after the break.

6. Even if some pundits do criticize Ngog for yesterday’s performance, I think he did a really good job. He was trying and trying and trying. If that’s not important than what is?

7. Emiliano Insua surprised with a good performance after his horrible play in the previous matches. Well done lad, keep on working like that.

8. We are now unbeaten in 6 consecutive games.

9. After the match the fans were chantingRafa’s name which I assume as a positive.

The list isn’t shot which makes me feel glad. But … that’s still isn’t IT. I’m asking myself if we are finally able to generate the swagger and play constantly on a level we used to play on?  YNWA

  1. Hmm..there was another point you clearly missed..which was obvious from our first para..
WE have the are on the brighter side of Luck ..(even though the results sometimes don’t go completely as we wish it to like the WOLVES game..)
however from your no. 6 ..i gotta say..If you are satisfied with a NGOG infront (ok he tries , but we needed talented players..only efforts will never make a Henry as some highly over optimistically rate him to be in the future)..we need players to turn half chances to Goals..to win matches for us..and as we cannot buy one ..the experienced ones like KUYT ..maybe even Babel can be tried (Why else should RAFA carry BABEL with us and pay him WAGes!!)..
as for NGOG i think he should have been loaned somewhere to mature..he missed some sitters today..all these will do him no good..anywaz..

  2. Amanda I think you got it spot on dear. Kaustav you are being a tad too hard on Ngog. He is no Torres replacement, and that’s a fact, but did you by any chance see Rooney’s miss against Man City during the week? And friend, how can you desire Ngog to become a Henry? Henry is a one-off. He comes from a breed of the likes of S Gerrard and Torres (in our ranks) come from. As I said yesterday however, I personally would have preferred Kuyt up front instead of Ngog and Maxi out on the right. Let’s see what the gaffer comes up with against our Blue cousins.

  3. i agree that even though it wasnt a great performance we still got the points in the bag and thats what matters.great performance from jamie as well he has shown the passion and leadership that makes him a true red and a legend among red followers.looking forward to the next two games and taking points from the blueboys and the gunners.we just need to keep fighting on and keep yucking away the points ynwa

  5. Sorry Mr. Bone i never said I desire him to be henry ..just read it somewhere where they said he was showing signs of becoming one..
but ya I absolutely agree with you ..that we must have started with Maxi on the Right..kuyt upfront and Aquilani behind the striker position..thats what would be some combination..Plus Stevie G in mid-field ..if these guys get into some sort of form ..We have both a very attacking team (thats how i like liverpool fc to be..a goal scoring and perfect demolishing unit)..I hope OUr gaffer has similar plans..because we have some really important games upfront that can decide our season..would be brilliant to Sail through them ..(will be tough ,but if we get the result in our favour..the rest will fall to place..)

  6. Hi Antoine,
good to get 3 points but to be blunt and honest we are very low quality. If we want to have any realistic ambition of the 4th spot then we have to up the ante as iot’s not a matter of if, but ‘when’, that we are overtaken by on of the contenders. I fear it will be city cos they have bought proven players and obvious maths show that they are well and truly in control of their own destiny. I hope they blow it mate but time will tell.
I’m not a Dirk fan but he was workmalike and despite his best efforts to miss he scuffed his shot in! lol. I’m pleased for him and doing my best to warm to him more.
Ngog has improved but he does not hold any solutions to LFC- the lad tries hard to his merit but that’s about it, I feel.
Babel again denied any realistic opportunity to win over ‘the faithful’.
    Aquilani- poor.
The Greek defender has done brilliantly- well done. No nonsense player and ideal for the scrappy games but I think we need to switch tactics against passing teams like Arsenal.
Gerrard- better. He deserves a few bad games, doesn’t he?
Pacheco- has he upset the manager? He is potentially the spark that lights the fuse this season. In my heart of hearts I dont think we will get 4th but I am rooting as much as anyone that goes to Anfield and SUPPORTS THEM. It’s been a strange season so far so maybe there are a few surprises yet to come.
And lets hope Arsenal give a masterclass today!!!!
    Cheers

  7. Mr. Hartley just for the sake of your information, i saw a recent interview of Dani Pacheco..there he said that he wasn’t quite prepared to do 1st team duty as yet..and as the management seems to have informed him, he would have to suffice with “guest appearences” only this season..he said the next season would be seeing more of him and often..I also wanted to see him in action..but until something really radical doesn’t go into RAFA’s head ..i doubt seeing too much of him this season..

  8. Mr Tim Hartley. I respect your opinion but I don’t agree. Aquilani poor? Did you watch the same game as me? Okay, a couple of passes gone wrong but the ball he pulled back to Kuyt in the first goal was overshot by Insua and was destined to go out, he climbed just behind the Bolton goalie and challenged by Bolton defenders and presented Kuiyt (as we are told is spelt) with a goldon gift.
Ngog is 21 years old battling centre-half giants. He is not Torres, he is not a world class striker, but he does not stop running, chasing balls and harassing defenders. It may not be good enough, but he puts in his shift hands down. Babel will never make the cut at Anfield. He’s had both the time and the opportunity. He has been given playing time in the recent past but his performances, bar a couple of distinct moments of brilliance, have been below par and way below the money the Club spent on him. Personally at this stage of the season I prefer low quality wins to high quality draws or losses.

  9. I’m not satisfied with Ngog … I said, that he did a good job. In yesterdays game every player could do it better. Not only Ngog. As Tonio said, he’s not a Torres replacement. But he IS TRYING really hard and that has to be appreciated.
Our performance was poor (like the whole season was) but we have the right result, we have the points and that’s how we have to think now: in results. That’s a fact. If the result is OK, the bad performance doesn’t hurt so much … At least, that’s how i see it.

  10. You hit the nail on the head Mr.Bone, with the lastline…
“at this stage of the season I prefer low quality wins to high quality draws or losses.”

With an injured squad (more so with an injured sole striker) and an out of form team seemingly coming to terms (i hope), this season..We just need WINS..anyway anyhow will do..
