It was a freezing Wednesday night when Liverpool FC travelled to London to play against Arsenal. Both sides were fighting but there’s been one goal only. Alas, it wasn’t a red one. After Arsenal’s Abou Diaby’s shot the ball went trough Pepe Reina’s hands and (unfortunately) ended in Liverpool’s goal.
Although we didn’t play bad, there wasn’t much to warm-up the fans who came to the Emirates Stadium and the tribunes stayed rather still. Even though we defended well, we played well and we’ve had some chances to score. The equaliser was very close after Ryan Babel’s fond action but good luck wasn’t on our side. Again … The referee seemed to be against us as well. Again … The penalty after a clear handball game wasn’t given to us and this could be (or even was?) a crucial decision. For that reason the frustration is even bigger now.
“This year we have had some decisions that have left us unhappy. Today is another one. But you cannot complain too much. We must be ready for the next game. We can’t waste time thinking about this.”, said Rafa.
There isn’t very much to add or to criticise. We could assail Degen for his disappointed performance after the outstanding appearances in the past, but I think it’s not the point … It won’t change the result. So even if the contrition is quite big, let’s listen to Rafa’s words:
“But now we must think about the future and the next few games. The race for the fourth position will go on until the end. We have to be ready for the next game. We have to believe.”
Yeah, we have to and we do.
