RBS wins injunction, H&G are denied appeal

Posted by

Mr Justice Floyd this morning ruled in favour of RBS which means that the sale to NESV can go through.

The news keeps getting better, Hicks and Gillett have been denied the appeal.

This means that we will have new owners within a couple of days.

Let us focus on football now.

  1. “As I said on Twitter it is not over yet however we just scored in extra time”

Hardly, we were 5 nil up going into injury time mate.

  2. It’s great news but are NESV right to take us forward, yes they will load no debt (where have we heard that before) If they do, is there money to rebuild the team, Roy is out of his depth, he is ok at Fulham because they accept mediocre and sign mediocre – that is not Liverpool FC. Lim is richer and offering £40m for transfers – getting rid of Poulsen, Lucas, Babel and Konchesky amongst the other dead wood, should bring in close to £30m with the £40m Lim is promising we should be able to sign Arda Turan, Mata, Taiwo, Mertacker and Gomez. A lot of skill and suddenly we can start reclaiming our perch…….. Well done CP, MB and IA. Hicks and Gillet glad you lost £140m you thieving scummy carpet bagging scum….

  3. Bye bye Statler and Waldorf, hope you both burn in hell for what you’ve done to our great club.

  4. As a fan of the Red sox and being American also being a reds fan I have to say that n.e.s.v. is great and I hope they are the owners, not lim. I don’t think lim is truly the better choice, he just has more money. NESV will put the people in place to build a successful franchise with the right parts and team chemistry like they have for the red sox. I understand reds fans are skeptical of Americans (understandable) but they haven’t even said how much they would be putting in the transfer window yet. for all we know it could be more then lim. Besides they know how to run a business which bottom line LFC is like it or not. Red supporters should be excited I know I am. NESV knows what it takes to win.

  5. this is just step 1 of a massive hill that we have to climb. Still fantastic news and thankfully it was done quickly.

  6. Thomas,
Although I see your point, please remember that Liverpool is not a “franchise”. European sport does not function on a franchise basis.

  7. Totally agree with Thomas and sorry Michael but if LFC is to compete then it needs to be managed as a business – what better way to do this then in the hands of a company that understands what success looks like, takes the time to understand the history of a club; its supporters and the environment in which it operates. Yes, NESV is another American based owner but it is no H&G.

We have to trust that CP, IA and MB selected NESV on the basis that it has the capability to grow and strengthen our Club in the right way. Lim may have more money, but does he have the infrastructure to push LFC forward? I don’t have the answer to that, but from what I’ve read NESV would appear to have the experience.

Thomas is also right re: the transfer kitting, NESV may be able to put more money than Lim on the table. Bottom line NESV is the preferred bidder (it bid more than anyone else to get this status) which means it is in the driving seat.

No matter what happens LFC will be better off after the sale process is concluded.

Anyone unhappy at H&G having to swallow a loss of $140m?

  8. Thomas,

European sports are run a whole lot differently than the way American sports like MLB, NFL etc are run. Owners of franchises in such sports are not used to shelling out millions on transfer fees for new players, instead they’re used to trades and drafting new players. Tbh, I think Lim has the stronger bid, he seems to be more financially stable and in a better position to keep the club going.

Btw, I think it’s £20 million NESV want to pump into the club for transfers during the January transfer window.

  9. MinniePK17, I didn’t say that it shouldn’t be run like a business, I said that it is not a “franchise” and it’s not. I do agree that it should be run like a business and that makes perfect sense. However, a franchise is a type of business in which other people can pay to use the club’s name. Like Subway (the sandwhich shop) doesn’t have a central shop – the shops are all owned by different people who pay to use the brand. Nobody uses the Liverpool brand except Liverpool. European sport does not work on a franchise basis in the slightest.
