Jackson Martinez transfer: Liverpool rival Arsenal for £30m striker…

Liverpool look set to make a £30m bid to sign Porto striker Jackson Martinez this January as they eye an improvement on Mario Balotelli, according to the Daily Express.

The Colombian international has a highly impressive record of 72 goals in 106 games for the Portuguese giants, and has been linked several times with the likes of Arsenal in recent times.

However, Liverpool are ready to step up their efforts for Martinez this winter, with Brendan Rodgers looking at a number of strikers to improve his side’s fortunes in attack.

Balotelli has been disappointing since his £16m summer move from AC Milan, while Daniel Sturridge’s injury has also been a blow for the Reds this season.

Back-up strikers Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini have also been out of form, with neither player able to find the net so far this season. The latter has also been linked with a move away from the club, having turned down offers from Sunderland and QPR during the summer.

Martinez, 28, joined Porto from Mexican side Chiapas in 2012, has been crucial to the fortunes of the Portuguese giants over the last two and a half years, with his form seeing him named club captain.

He was part of the Colombia side that reached the quarter finals of the World Cup last summer, and impressed despite teammate James Rodriguez grabbing the headlines for his goal scoring heroics.
