Enormous compliment for the Liverpool wonderkid…
Xavi, one of the greatest midfielders (if not the greatest) of the 21st century, has lauded Liverpool’s wonderkid Raheem Sterling, as well as Everton’s Ross Barkley, reports Squawka.
The legendary Spaniard told the stats website that both the young Englishmen have the capabilities and potential to one day sign for Barcelona, the club he has represented his entire trophy-laden career.
“Yes, why not? I think that they could,” the three times Champions League winner replied when asked the question.
“They have incredible physical capabilities and they are good technically. In Spain, we prioritise players who are technically gifted but both things are very important in football.”
Most Liverpool fans would be happy to see the excellent Barkley move to Spain, which would weaken Everton but potentially improve the England side.
We’d like to keep hold of Sterling at all costs however, and thankfully, our wonderkid is close to signing a lengthy contract extension.
He’s been more prominently linked to Real Madrid rather than Barcelona, but the £60m release clause set to be inserted into his new deal should warn off potential suitors for a few seasons at least.
