Emile Heskey believes Sterling has the ability to become one of the best…
Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey believes the terrifying pace and dribbling ability of Raheem Sterling offers the 19-year-old star a platform to become the best he can be.
Heskey, who was speaking to Liverpool’s Official Website, was providing an assessment of his old side before taking part in a much-anticipated legends encounter at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Saturday.
“He has got great pace and his athletic ability is outstanding,” the 2001 treble winner told the club. “He can be the best if he wants to be.
“He has got the ability to be – his dribbling ability and awareness as well, at such a young age, he has got already. He’s had a little bit of an up-and-down season so far.
“But he’s only 19 so you can’t expect him to have the consistency of a 23-, 24- or 25-year-old. He has got a lot of attributes that surpass his age. But he’s still young, so he still needs to work on certain things.”
The powerful former Reds striker, who plundered 60 goals in 223 games for the club, is currently preparing to pull on the famous shirt once again, almost 15 years after he first signed up. Heskey is one of a raft of Anfield alumni out in Singapore forming a team to take on a local XI.
