Unlikely transfer rumour circles the internet…
The Express has dubiously claimed that Liverpool are confident of tying up the £30m transfer of Colombian forward Jackson Martinez.
The story stems from quotes attributed to the 28-year-old, in which Martinez claimed that he’d like to leave FC Porto at the end of the campaign.
“At the end of this season I hope to get some interesting proposals,” he said.
The quotes are very vague, and do not indicate that Liverpool have lined up a winter move for Martinez, especially when such an enormous figure has been quoted.
If we were to splash £30m on a new player, it would likely be in the summer, and not when a player is cup-tied for Europe.
Martinez does however possess the clinical finishing ability we’re arguably crying out for following Luis Suarez’s summer departure.
Since arriving in Europe two seasons ago, Martinez has notched an unbelievably impressive 72 goals in 107 appearances, a rate only bettered by Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in top European leagues in that time – although Martinez has been mainly doing it in the relatively easy Portuguese league.
