Eleven players all heavily linked to Liverpool ahead of the January transfer window…
If all these (occasionally ridiculous) rumours were to be believed, we’d have a completely different starting XI by the end of January…
To be clear – we’re NOT saying all of these, or any of these will happen – we just thought it’d be interesting to shape an entirely new side based on the players most consistently linked…
GK) Guillermo Ochoa – Malaga
The Express reckons that the Mexican has already agreed to move to Liverpool, with the club playing £3m in transfer fees. The Mexican stopper started following Liverpool on Twitter just minutes after it was announced that Brendan Rodgers had dropped Simon Mignolet for the Man United clash, oddly.
DR) Martin Montoya – Barcelona
The Guardian claims we’re the favourites to sign Montoya. The 23-year-old Spaniard is definitely leaving during the upcoming transfer window, but a number of Premier League clubs are apparently interested in his services also. “He is going to go in January and all that has to be done is to reach an agreement with Barcelona,” Montoya’s agent Juan de Dios Carrasco claimed.
DL) Luca Antonelli – Genoa
Eurosport linked the 27-year-old Italian left-back to us on the basis of some interesting player quotes. “My dream one day is to play for Liverpool,” he said. Antonelli has starred for Genoa, who are performing way above expectations in Serie A.
DC) Jan Vertonghen – Tottenham
The Mirror (and countless other papers) suggested that we’d make a serious move for Tottenham’s Belgian defender, who still hasn’t agreed to sign a contract extension at White Hart Lane.
DC) Ron Vlaar – Aston Villa
talkSPORT reckon Napoli will battle both Manchester United and Liverpool for the services of the World Cup star in January, mainly because his contract expires in the summer. Vlaar’s ageing and relatively immobile, but defensively solid.
MC) Marek Hamsik – Napoli
Spanish website fichajes.net reckon Marek Hamsik is finally ready to end his long association with Napoli, which has given long-term admirers Liverpool an increased chance of signing the dynamic attacking midfielder.
MC) Fredy Guarin – Inter Milan
The Liverpool Echo claimed that we could try to take Inter’s Colombian battler Guarin on loan during January. The 28-year-old is a former target of Chelsea, and would add steel to the midfield.
AMR) Kevin Mirallas – Everton
The Express ambitiously linked the Belgian, who’s claimed he wants to play Champions League football, with an extremely controversial transfer across Stanley Park. “I’ve made no secret of the fact that I want to play in the Champions League. Ideally I will do so with Everton,” the talented winger said.
“But if that doesn’t appear possible we will have to look at the situation.”
AML) Yannick Bolasie – Crystal Palace
The Express thinks that Bolasie’s form with Palace in the top flight this term will earn him a bumper move to a bigger club, with Liverpool circling, having been on the wrong end of an excellent Bolasie performance at Selhurst Park earlier in the season.
FC) Alexandre Lacazette – Lyon
The Mirror rates Lacazette as a £15m Liverpool target after scoring 15 Ligue 1 goals in 18 matches so far this term. We’re 100% sure he’d be a heck of a lot more expensive than that, and his club president Jean Michel Aulas has dismissed the claims anyway.
FC) Jackson Martinez – FC Porto
The Daily Mail claims Liverpool will offload Mario Balotelli in January, and replace him with one of Martinez, Saido Berahino or West Ham summer signing Diafra Sakho!
