How Liverpool fans would love the brilliant Spaniard to still be on our books… Alonso’s wonderful array of passing and jaw-dropping technique formed part of the best midfield trio in the world at the time – alongside Gerrard and Javier Mascherano. Alonso moved to Real Madrid for big money in 2010, and is now starring for Bayern Munich in Germany.
