Liverpool face battle with Juventus to land cheap goalkeeping option in January

Liverpool’s pursuit of a new goalkeeper could see them turn to Brazilian stopper Neto…

Brendan Rodgers is considering whether or not to pay £2m to take Fiorentina’s Brazilian goalkeeper Norberto Neto to Anfield in January, as he looks to increase competition for Simon Mignolet and Brad Jones.

The name is unlikely to be a new one for many Liverpool fans, who will know all too well that the keeper, along with several other potential number ones, have been linked with a switch over the last few months.

According to reports in the Daily Mirror, Neto’s contract expires in the summer, and Juventus are confident of recruiting him on a free transfer in the summer, but we could yet snatch him with a winter bid.

Fiorentina, will reluctantly sell the player this month, as they look to cut their losses and avoid the player leaving for nothing in six months time.

The source adds that Neto would be up against Gianluigi Buffon at Juventus where he is being offered £1.5m a year. The wages would unlikely to be a problem for Liverpool but they must move quick to land him.

Current Reds stopper Mignolet has struggled for form so far this season, while Jones is currently sidelined through injury, leaving youngster Danny Ward on the substitute bench.
