Liverpool transfer news
The Reds boss was quizzed yet again about his young star in Friday’s press conference, but was quick to fend off suggestions that the club’s lack of progress means that Sterling could leave the club at the end of the season.
Aidy Ward – Sterling’s representative – has supposedly ruled out further talks for now, a decision that Rodgers has accepted, although the Northern Irishman remains convinced that the player is happy at Anfield.
Asked whether a compromise with Ward and Sterling could be reached, Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo: “Not between now and the end of the season.
“Raheem’s representative and the boy himself, he just wants to concentrate on his football and see what can he resolved in the summer.”
Rodgers also described the supposed interest of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in Sterling, our joint top-scorer so far this season, as “pure speculation”.
He added: “The boy is happy here, I’ll repeat – if you have the interests of the kid and his football development you’ll see at this stage of his career this is the best place for him to be. But I’m sure that will all be resolved and the concentration for Raheem now is on his football and it’s clear now on when those talks will begin again.”
