Where would this side finish in the Premier League…?
Of all Premier League sides, Liverpool easily has the best group of England players, and this ‘All-English’ side is very strong, bar perhaps the centre of defence.
More than half of this team has won caps for England.
Will we ever deploy a team made England players, under Brendan Rodgers…?
GK) Lawrence Vigouroux
Danny Ward, the keeper who often backs up Simon Mignolet from the bench, is Welsh! So Vigouroux, who usually starts for the Under-21 side, gets our nod ahead of Ryan Fulton. Vigouroux is 21-years-old, has both Chilean and Jamaican routes, and played at Anfield during the All-Star Charity Match.
DR) Glen Johnson
The 30-year-old is not the rampaging right-back he once was, but still walks in our ‘All-England’ XI. Johnson has won an impressive 54 caps for his country, but with the emergence of Nathaniel Clyne, he’s down the pecking order now.
DC) Andre Wisdom
Wisdom’s on loan at West Brom where he’s currently struggling to get a game, but has strong international pedigree, having skippered the England Under-21 side. He’s predominantly been used as a right-back, but has the attributes to one day develop into a powerful central defender.
DC) Lloyd Jones
Jones nicks the second centre-back spot ahead of fellow reserve player Kevin Stewart. Jones is an England youth international, and has done relatively well during loan spells at Cheltenham Town and Accrington Stanley this term. Interestingly, Tiago Ilori was born in England, and is therefore eligible for the national side, but we haven’t included him in the XI because of his multiple Portugal youth team appearances.
DL) Jon Flanagan
Flanagan has one cap for his country, which he earned on the back of some tremendous form during our charge for the title in 2013/14. Injuries have decimated this campaign sadly, but we’re hoping he renews his contract and is raring to go for next season.
DMC) Steven Gerrard
Our brilliant skipper is retired from England duty, but would likely have gone on to break David Beckham’s appearance record for an outfield player had he continued. Gerrard scored 21 goals in 114 international matches, and will go down as one of his country’s greatest ever midfielders.
MC) Jordan Henderson
Henderson’s one of two players in this side who are guaranteed England starters, currently. The midfield dynamo provides both us and his country endless energy and work-rate from the centre, while his creativity is continually improving.
AMC) Adam Lallana
Another Liverpool star who consistently gets caps for England, Lallana’s qualities are undoubted, although he isn’t an automatic starter for us nor the Three Lions right now. This is partly down to injuries, and we hope that his form and fitness will improve and he contribute from now until the end of the season.
AMR) Jordon Ibe
Ibe has no caps for his country yet, and remarkably, has never played for the Under-21s either – but it’s surely only a matter of time before he’s a regular for the latter. We have huge hopes for the wonderkid at Liverpool – and his talent has practically no ceiling.
AML) Raheem Sterling
Sterling, aged just 19 at the time, was probably England’s best player at World Cup 2014, although his teammates let him down. The flyer recently bagged his first goal for Roy Hodgson’s side in a 4-0 thrashing of Lithuania.
FC) Daniel Sturridge
This season’s injuries have meant Sturridge’s place in the England side is no longer automatic, with Spurs star Harry Kane probably ahead of him in the pecking order right now. Still, when he’s firing on all cylinders again, he’ll likely earn a spot up top again due to his blistering pace and dynamic finishing.
