The double-revelation has led to increased speculation that the Marseille star, 25, who is out of contract at the end of the season, could move to Anfield on a free in the summer to boost Brendan Rodgers’ midfield options.
Ayew, who can play as both a winger and as a second striker behind an out-and-out forward, has been with the French club for his entire senior career, playing 148 league games and scoring 41 goals since 2007.
According to the Evening Standard, he has already been in contact with a number of clubs over a potential summer move but the player has refused to reveal the clubs in question.
However, he did go as far as to say that the Premier League would be his preferred destination. He told reporters: “All my life I have been a Liverpool fan. When I was young I was watching the Liverpool games.
“Steven Gerrard is my favourite player. It will not be easy to see him leave in the summer, but we all need a new challenge. I have had a lot of different offers from different countries, but I will have to discuss with Marseille.
“I will make a decision soon, and look at the offers that are coming in and decide what is best for my future. The Premier League is the best league in the world today, and it would be an honour play there.
“I talk to a lot with my friends who have played there. Samuel Eto’o, Alex Song, Samir Nasri, Joey Barton have all given me great advice about the Premier League.
“I am still in contract with Marseille, so I cannot give names of clubs, but there has been contact.”
