According to the Daily Express, the Reds have been encouraged by the latest scouting reports on Patricio, who the source claims we’ve watched on several occasions so far this season.

They reference Portuguese daily ‘A Bola’, who in turn have claimed that Liverpool’s chief academy scout recently went to watch the keeper, instead of regular Primeira Liga talent spotter Julian Ward.

The 27-year-old has been with Lisbon since 2006, making 320 appearances in all competitions. He made his Portugal debut in 2010 and has since earned 36 caps for his national side.

Patricio earned praise from Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho earlier this season, after restricting them to just one goal during their Champions league group stage meeting.

He said of his countryman: “There were great saves from Patricio. Games like this can end up 4-0 or 5-0, but it ended up 1-0 and a well managed goal.”
