The 25-year-old is available on a free transfer this summer, with his contract set to expire, and the Reds are among a host of teams who have been linked with a move.
Ayew has scored seven goals in Ligue 1 this season, providing two assists, and his pace and work rate could see him an asset to our pressing game.
The Ghanaian was quoted in the Evening Standard earlier this month, hinting that he would prefer a move to Anfield. The Ghana star revealed that he’s been a Liverpool fan since childhood and would welcome the potential switch.
“All my life I have been a Liverpool fan,” Ayew told Sky Sports. “When I was young I was watching the Liverpool games.
“Steven Gerrard is my favourite player. It will not be easy to see him leave in the summer, but we all need a new challenge.”
Today, the deal looks to have taken a step closer, with The Metro claiming that a £42,000-per-week offer will be enough to persuade him to sign on the dotted line.
Tottenham Hotspur are believed to have offered a £60k package but Ayew’s love of the Reds looks to be enough to sway his decision.
The news will likely be welcomed by supporters, for whom this deal appears to have very few strings attached.
As ever, its finality is not a given, as the press would have you believe, but it appears to be one of the more likely rumours we’ve come across since the turn of the year.
