The Reds are reportedly sizing up not one, but two bargain buys from Marseille this summer, with both defender Rod Fanni and winger Andre Ayew believed to be among Brendan Rodgers’ list of targets.

According to The Guardian, both players are available on free transfers with their contracts unlikely to be renewed.
Fanni, 33, has enjoyed a solid career in the French league, which has also seen him have spells with Stade Rennais and Lens. He’s a right-back by trade and has picked up five caps for the French national team, where he was regularly employed as the understudy to Bacary Sagna.
Ayew, 25, has been linked with Liverpool a number of times in recent weeks. In quotes taken by the Evening Standard earlier this month, the Ghana international confirmed that he’s been a fan of the Reds since youth, while The Metro later suggested that a deal was close to completion, despite rival interest from Newcastle United.
However, it’s the links to (admittedly brilliantly named) Fanni that are particularly intriguing. With Glen Johnson and Kolo Toure both out of contract this summer, there’s every possibility that Rodgers could be on the lookout for potential additions at the back come the end of the season.
Fanni would certainly be a near like-for-like replacement in terms of experience, while his record of 24 appearances so far this season suggests that he’s still of a decent calibre – playing regularly in a successful team.
Unfortunately for Fanni, Marseille have more recently begun to favour youngster Benoit Aloe, by all accounts leaving him open to a potential move.
