Radja Nainggolan (AS Roma)

Pjanic’s midfield partner and another brilliant player off the conveyor-belt of Belgian talent. The 26-year-old offers plenty going forward but is also capable of tracking back to help his defenders, making him an appealing option.

Martin Montoya (Barcelona)

The Catalans out of favour defender who could be on the lookout for first-team football at this stage of his career. A right-back by trade, the 24-year-old could fill the gap left by Johnson’s likely summer departure.

Ezequiel Lavezzi (Paris Saint Germain)

Another star of the French capital. The Argentine could add some much-needed width to Liverpool’s starting XI. He’s 29, so towards the end of the peak years of his career, but has proved recently that he has plenty to offer.

Danny Ings (Burnley)

The striker is likely to have a queue of Premier League teams at his door if Burnley go down this season. Ings has scored nine top flight goals for the Clarets thus far and has also been linked with a whole host of top teams.

Gonzalo Higuain (Napoli)

Another South American star. The Argentine has scored 26 goals in all competitions so far this season, taking him to 50 since his arrival at Napoli in the summer of 2013. He’s fired the club to the Europa League semi-finals.
