Son – who can play on either wing, or as a striker – has enjoyed a great season for the Bundesliga side. His 11 goals in the league is the joint-best in the team – along with Karim Bellarabi – and has helped Leverkusen secure a fourth placed finish in the table, and a play-off spot in next year’s Champions League.

According to a report in the Daily Mail at the start of the month, the South Korean international was attracting our interest, but it may require a bid of at least £15m to bring him to Anfield.

But, this latest accolade may prove that it is time to invest in the 22-year-old. The volume of quality players coming out of Asia may not be as high as those from Europe or South America, but his reputation on this continent is growing massively.

In an interview with FourFourTwo, he revealed that the Premier League has a huge fanbase in his home country, but he remains happy in Germany for the time-being.

“The Premier League is massive and most Koreans support an English team. But I think the Bundesliga is the best league in the world at the moment. People say that the Premier League is very competitive and that every team can beat every other team. But when you look at the standings, it’s always the same four or five teams at the top,” Son explained.

Son is the kind of player that will definitely offer more depth, as he is able to play across the front line. And if the reported fee that it would take to sign him is correct, he will cost half of the £30m that the Liverpool Echo suggest that it would take to bring in Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke, who is also a target.

The Belgian has one more league goal than Son, but has little experience playing in a side that are regularly competing for the places in the Champions League.
