Teams from around Europe are on red alert today after Sami Khedira confirmed that he would be leaving Real Madrid during the summer transfer window. Liverpool have been loosely linked with the German international in the past and a handful of supporters are likely to be pointing out his availability.

According to the Daily Mirror, Khedira’s expiring contract is likely to attract interest from both Arsenal and Manchester United, who like ourselves are not blessed with a whole host of options in the defensive midfield position.
Khedira was heavily linked with the Premier League last summer as well, but has decided to stick it out until the end of his contract. Speaking earlier this weekend, he said: “I want to thank everyone, my teammates and the fans. The club will remain in my heart forever. I’m very proud to have worn this badge for five years.”
The 28-year-old has spent five years in the Spanish capital, making 102 La Liga appearances and scoring six goals. He’s also surpassed 50 caps for Germany in that time and was part of their World Cup winning squad last summer.
If he can put his current injury issues behind him, we see little reason to doubt the fact that he’d be a good signing for us, particularly following the departure of Steven Gerrard to LA Galaxy.
