Liverpool’s hunt for a new goalkeeper continues this weekend, with the Daily Mirror reporting that we’re interested in signing Real Madrid’s Costa Rican international Keylor Navas, who they believe to be available for around £10.5m.

Liverpool transfer news
Earlier this week, we reported that the Reds had pulled out of the race to sign Fiorentina stopper Neto, who we have been linked with for much of the season (via the Liverpool Echo). However, Brendan Rodgers remains intent on signing a new keeper this summer, to provide competition for current number one Simon Mignolet.
Navas would certainly provide that. Despite playing just six times in La Liga this year, he was one of the heroes of last summer’s World Cup and remains highly rated across the continent.
Unfortunately for him, the Mirror believe that the imminent arrival of David de Gea from Manchester United will see him drop to third choice at the Bernabeu, leaving him open to a move.
The 28-year-old has an affordable release clause in his contract and is thought to be weighing up his options, although the Mirror claim that he’s only had loan offers from clubs in Italy thus far.
Navas would undoubtedly be a quality replacement for the departing Brad Jones, who is out of contract this summer, and could start a real battle between himself and Mignolet for the number one spot.
With youngsters Danny Ward and Lawrence Vigouroux the only other goalkeepers currently on the fringes of the first-team, a quality number two is simply a must for us this summer. And if he can be relied upon to play regularly as well, in any potential absence of Mignolet, then so much the better.
