Nine players we’d like to see involved in any Sterling swap deal, with Manchester City & Chelsea stars

This follows suggestions in the Daily Mail last night that we are only willing to sell the winger in a straight cash deal, and will not accept any players in part-exchange. There have been suggestions striker Edin Dzeko may be used as a makeweight but the Mail believes that will not be the case.

We rejected City’s first offer of £30m for Sterling last week, as the source confirms, and it appears as if City have now made a fresh approach. However, with the Mail suggesting we want a minimum of £45m before we consider doing business, they’re unlikely to make much headway this time around.

Sterling has refused to sign a new contract at Liverpool and his agent Aidy Ward has made it clear the England international has no intention of staying. But with the player still having two years remaining on his contract, it’s going to be hard for him to force his way out of Anfield without our say so.

It’ll be intriguing to discover our owners immediate response to this story.
