As expected, Jordan Henderson has been named as the new Liverpool captain, replacing long-serving skipper Steven Gerrard.

The reaction to the news on Twitter has been mostly positive, with Henderson arguably the only viable candidate in the current Reds squad to take the armband. He has his critics of course, but the vast majority have seen the value behind having such a hard-working team player as our leader in chief.
Henderson, 25, began his professional career at Sunderland. His performances quickly made people sit up and take notice, with Liverpool lucky enough to win the race for his signature in 2011.
He’s since made 186 appearances for us in all competitions and scored 20 goals. His most prolific season in a Liverpool shirt came during the 2014-15 campaign when he turned out 54 times, finding the net on seven occasions.
Jordan earned his first England call-up in 2010 and has since featured 22 times for the Three Lions. Many critics even see him as a future England captain, after watching him become a fully-established member of the side over the last 18 months (via talkSPORT).
Here’s how Twitter reacted to the news of his appointment…
