Roberto Firmino – who was the only summer signing not to feature in yesterday’s pre-season victory in Thailand – has been handed the number 11 shirt last worn by Oussama Assaidi.
Elsewhere, Joe Gomez will wear number 12 and Adam Bogdan has been handed the number 34. Nathaniel Clyne has, as expected, taken the number two shirt vacated by Glen Johnson. And, as we already knew, James Milner will wear number seven and Danny Ings has number 28.
Divock Origi, who didn’t receive a squad number last summer and instead returned for a season-long loan spell with former club Lille, has number 27. Andre Wisdom has retaken his number 47 shirt.
This means that several intriguing gaps still remain unfilled. The number one shirt remains vacant, as does the number five and Steven Gerrard’s old number eight. Whether these gaps will be filled between now and the start of the new season remains to be seen.
