Liverpool fans bemoan Dejan Lovren’s latest error, as Malaysia XI take early lead

Dejan Lovren recently claimed that he wouldn’t be made a scapegoat for Liverpool’s failings last season, after the former Southampton defender failed to impress during his first twelve months on Merseyside.

In quotes taken by the Liverpool Echo, he said: “At Southampton it was different. There was a good atmosphere and I was happy. If I am not playing well, I cannot be happy. I didn’t pretend. But it is not Dejan Lovren-Liverpool, you know? I cannot defend all alone. It is 11 players.”

However, he’s going to have to cut out mistakes such as the one he committed against the Malaysia XI today, if he’s going to earn the renewed faith of both his teammates and our supporters.

He wasn’t totally to blame for the goal, the first of the game in the twelfth minute, but the fact that both he and Martin Skrtel stood and watched as Patrick Wleh burst through on goal can only be considered a criminal error – even in a pre-season friendly.

The Croatian made a half-hearted attempt to get back and win the ball, after the long punt from the back had got the better of him, but Wleh proved to be too quick and too strong. Despite grabbing a handful of the attacker’s shirt, the man known as Ronaldinho was still able to slot past Adam Bogdan and give the hosts the lead.
