You can find out everything you need to know about the player below:
Basic Information:
- Adama Traore Diarra – known commonly as Adama – was born in L’Hospitalet, Spain, on 25 January 1996, making him 19 years old.
- Despite being of Malian descent, he has spent his entire life in Spain, and grew up in Catalonia. His older brother Mohamed had opted to switch allegiance to Mali.
- Traore is a right winger by trade, although he’s also capable of playing on the left hand side as well. He is best known for his ability on the ball – with his dribbling, work-rate and pace making him the ideal wide-man.
Club Career:
- Adama joined Barcelona in 2004, aged eight, after a brief spell with local club Hospitalet.
- He was promoted to the B-team, who at the time played in the Spanish second division, in 2013. He made his professional debut in October, despite still being just 17 years old.
- A month later he made his first-team debut, replacing Neymar as a late substitute in a 4-0 home win over Granada. He made his Champions League bow three days later, this time replacing Cesc Fabregas.
- He has since played four times and scored once for Luis Enrique’s side. His only goal came in an 8-1 home win over Huesca in the Copa del Rey.
Fun Facts:
- Traore was a key part of the team that won the 2013-14 UEFA Youth League. Barcelona beat Benfica 3-0 in the final, with Munir El Haddadi the stand-out performer.
- Adama has previously been compared to Arjen Robben. Interestingly, he’s also been heavily linked with Robben’s current club, Bayern Munich. Arsenal have also been mentioned (via the Metro).
- Liverpool are no strangers to players of Malian descent. Adama’s namesake, Djimi Traore, was a member of our Champions League winning side in 2005. Mohamed Sissoko also came from the African nation and helped us win the FA Cup in 2006.
