Liverpool fans have rushed on to social media this morning to praise midfielder Emre Can, who is reportedly closing in on a call-up to the German national team.
The 21-year-old, who has 13 caps for his country’s Under-21 side and has played 50 games in total for the reigning World Champions as youth team level, has been in fine form so far this season and is optimistic about his chances of receiving a long-awaited call-up.

Can, who signed for the Reds last summer from Bayer Leverkusen, was a member of the German team which reached the semi-finals of this summer’s European Under-21 Championships and his consistent performances now look set to be rewarded by first-team manager Joachim Loew.
Germany will meet Poland and Scotland in September’s qualifiers and Can will no doubt be hoping that he gets his chance in at least one of those two games after helping Liverpool maintain an unbeaten start to the season.
This was the headline in German daily Bild this morning:

Emre Can was a great signing for us, only just 21 years old. His work ethic is immense. Can't wait to see him play next.

Emre Can of #LFC, has competently played as a CB for German U-21s, but Joachim Low sees him as the engine to run his German midfield. [Bild]
