Liverpool are considering buying Jamie Vardy [ESPN]

We’re not quite sure what to make of this one.

If the Metro or the Daily Express had made up another transfer rumour we’d have ignored it, but the reputable ESPN are today claiming that Liverpool are keeping close tabs on Leicester City hotshot Jamie Vardy.

The 28-year-old Englishman is in the form of his life, scoring ten Premier League goals so far this term. In fact, only Robert Lewandowski and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang have bagged more goals in Europe’s top five leagues so far. (Interestingly, our new manager Jurgen Klopp signed both those strikers for former club Borussia Dortmund.)

ESPN reckon Tottenham are also eyeing up Vardy, who’s now a regular in Roy Hodgson’s international squad as well.

Liverpool are struggling badly to score goals at the moment, and shockingly, have scored one less in the Premier League than Vardy’s managed by himself!

He’s quick, feisty and clearly has an eye for goal, but is hardly a household name. He’s a very ‘Liverpool’ signing in that he’s English and doing well for a lesser top flight club (Lallana, Downing, Henderson, Carroll, Lambert, Clyne etc.), but most fans would hope we aim for more ambitious targets considering the pulling power of our new manager.

We’ve been consistently stung when acquiring in-form Premier League talent which then struggles to make the step up, and although Vardy’s been a true star of the season, Liverpool should be scouting more suitable targets instead of flavour of the month attackers.
