Liverpool battled to a hard-earned 1-0 win at the Britannia Stadium in the first leg of the League Cup semi-final on Tuesday night, but the evening was marred by fresh knocks to Philippe Coutinho and Dejan Lovren.
The injuries mean that according to physioroom.com we now have a staggering eleven players stuck in the treatment room – and with the exception of a goalkeeper, the list amounts to a pretty solid starting XI!
LB: Mamadou Sakho
The Frenchman is currently suffering from a knee injury he picked up in training ahead of tonight’s game. There is currently no further news.
CB: Dejan Lovren
Lovren went off just after the half hour mark against Stoke whilst holding his hamstring. It could mean at least a month on the sidelines.
CB: Martin Skrtel
Skrtel also has a hamstring problem and isn’t expected back until our home game against Sunderland in early February.
RB: John Flanagan
John Flanagan is reportedly nearing a return to the squad after completing some minutes in U21 games recently, but after 18 months on the sidelines, it remains to be seen whether he can rekindle his Scouse-Cafu form.
CM: Philippe Coutinho
Tonight’s other injury, Coutinho also went off holding his hamstring.
CM: Jordan Henderson
The captain has an ankle injury, and at the moment does not have a return date.
CM: Jordan Rossiter
It’s been a stop-start campaign for the youngster, with his current hamstring injury being the second of the season.
ST: Divock Origi
Origi is yet another player who is suffering from a hamstring issue. He is expected back for our trip to Norwich later this month.
ST: Daniel Sturridge
We all hoped Sturridge would be involved tonight, but he picked up yet another setback in training before the game. We await further news.
ST: Danny Ings
Ings is likely to miss most of the season with an ACL injury.
