Liverpool fan and talkSPORT’s Eastern European football commentator Alexey Yaroshevsky has given fans a more in-depth look at our prospective January signing Alex Teixeira.
The BBC confirm that we’ve made a £24.5m bid for the 26-year-old Brazilian, who’s scored 26 goals in all competitions this season from an attacking midfield position.
Bar perhaps the odd Champions League highlights package though, most Reds will not have seen much of the talented playmaker.
But Yaroshevsky reckons we should be very, very excited – comparing Teixeira to Luis Suarez – and claiming he’s ‘drooling’ over the prospect of Jurgen Klopp developing the uncapped South American.
Interestingly, he also claims Chelsea haven’t responded with a counter bid, and importantly – that reports of a hamstring injury are false.

I love the new-style Liverpool in the transfer market. No leaks, silent operations. The Teixeira bid caught all off guard

Said this in November and it hasn’t changed – Teixeira would be a great buy. That boy can score!

The best thing about Alex is that he can be played almost anywhere upfront – winger, CAM or striker. Versatile. And equally effective too

Well, my Shakhtar man says there’s no hamstring injury. But, to be fair, he was wrong once <sigh>

Back to the actual stuff. Alex Teixeira has been on fire this season. 22 goals in 15 games in Ukrainian prem, +3 assists

Breakdown of Teixeira’s goals/assists this season (its January!): Ukr prem 22/3, Ukr cup 0, Champions League 4/1. Total 26/4 all comps

Genuinely looks like a real deal. The ball is on Shakhtar’s side now https://t.co/wLRPo3I9XL

So, just 2 wks ago Lucescu said he wont let Alex leave in Jan. A week later, the player said he may leave to fight for place in Brazil squad

Yes, Teixeira’s stats are Suarez-esque prior to his move to LFC
— Alexey Yaroshevsky (@YaroLFC) January 21, 2016
IF – and i repeat IF – LFC pull this off, they will be bringing the wealth of AT’s talent from one of the best talent-making clubs in Europe
— Alexey Yaroshevsky (@YaroLFC) January 21, 2016
Mkhitaryan, Willian, Douglas Costa – Shakhtar have been prolific in the last decade
— Alexey Yaroshevsky (@YaroLFC) January 21, 2016
And Im drooling over the thought what Klopp could do with Teixeira. He’s already a developed player, but Jurgen can make him worldclass
— Alexey Yaroshevsky (@YaroLFC) January 21, 2016
Chelsea have NOT made a new bid for Teixeira yet
