After we beat Stoke in a penalty shoot-out on Tuesday night, our boss Jurgen Klopp revealed in his post-match interviews that he didn’t watch the kicks themselves, instead preferring to rely on the noise of the crowd to tell him what was going on.
“I didn’t see one shot,” he said. I was behind the wall of my players so I had to watch it from there. I will watch it on television at home but it was good watching the crowd instead.” (via BBC).
In the event, Simon Mignolet and Joe Allen were the heroes, with the Belgian saving from Peter Crouch and Marc Muniesa and the Welshman firing home the winning seventh kick.
Not to take anything away from Simon (who guessed the right direction for five out of Stoke’s seven kicks), but it’s hard not to think that the Anfield crowd at least played some role in the win.
