Liverpool U21s were dumped out of the Premier League Cup in the semi-finals after a 3-2 loss to West Ham United after extra time (via Echo).
Aside from the misery of the loss, the biggest disappointment of the night was a red card for Martin Skrtel, who was sent off for two bookable offences.
Skrtel was one of two senior players to have been brought in for the game, as Jon Flanagan also lined up in the back four.
We took an early lead through Pedro Chirivella’s strike, but Ryan Kent and Ryan McLaughlin then missed two glorious chances before Doneil Henry equalised for the Hammers.
The game ended 1-1 after 90 mins, and it was West Ham who struck first in extra time thanks to Marcus Browne. Skrtel then saw red, but Sheyi Ojo looked to have salvaged a penalty shootout when he equalised in the 107th minute. Sadly, Stephen Hendrie’s late strike won the game for them.
