In an interview with the official Liverpool FC site, our Welsh midfielder Joe Allen has called Sunday’s 3-2 loss to Southampton “hugely disappointing”, adding that there are “lessons to be learned”.
We were, of course, 2-0 at half-time, only to throw away the win with one of the worst second half performances that you’re likely to see from any Premier League side.
In the event, Allen was one of the better performers, and even had a contentious goal ruled out for offside when Sakho was adjudged to have blocked Forster’s line of sight.
“You don’t see those [decisions] given very often. I think everyone knows it was a key moment in the game as I don’t think we would be sat here with no points had that gone in, but that’s football,” he said. “Unfortunately, we we were on the wrong side of that decision.
“To be ahead like that and then throw it away is hugely disappointing
“Our focus has been on the run, gaining that momentum and I thought for large spells it looked like we would keep that going, but to come away with nothing… we can’t look beyond that at the moment.
“We’ll make sure lessons are learned and for the rest of the season we’ll have to get that ball rolling and get some wins again.”
