Emre Can has admitted that much of the dramatic events of Thursday night were thanks to the fans and their non-stop support.

There were was a stirring half-time rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone when we were 2-0 down, and in the 88th minute – when it looked as though we might come up just short – it once again rang round the famous stadium.

That barely scratches the surface, however. The fans flocked onto the streets to welcome the players to the stadium, filled up the ground an hour before kick-off, and refused to be silenced even after our dreadful opening ten minutes.

“[The noise] was unbelievable,” said Can (via Echo).

“I’ve never played in an atmosphere like that. They were our 12th man. We were one team all together – the players, the manager, the staff and the supporters.

“This is a big result and this is for everyone, it’s for the whole city. Everyone believed we could do it, even at half-time. I am very proud to be a part of this team.”

He also said he hopes that his scan is better than feared and he’ll be fit for the semi-final in two weeks against Villarreal.

“We will have to see what the scan shows”, he said. “I twisted my ankle. I hope it’s not too bad but it’s too early to say.”
