Liverpool ruled out of Vardy chase, despite reports to the contrary

during the Barclays Premier League match between Leicester City and Manchester United at The King Power Stadium on September 21, 2014 in Leicester, England.

We are not looking to battle Arsenal for the signature of Jamie Vardy.

It was revealed earlier today that the Gunners had activated the England striker’s £20 million release clause (via BBC), though some of the national press had said we were also investigating the plausibility of a deal (via Mirror, Metro).

However, according to Ian Doyle’s comments in the Echo – we are not interested in the 29-year-old.

It is thought Vardy’s release clause only applies to teams in the Champions League, and Doyle claims that reports we’d offer him £140,000 to lure him to Anfield in spite of no European football are false.

Vardy scored 24 goals last season as Leicester grabbed an unexpected title triumph. It very much remains to be seen whether or not he’ll be able to maintain that level of form for another season, or for another club.

Arsenal apparently hope to wrap up a deal before the Euros kick off.
